More than 550 Runners Compete In Rosarito-Puerto Nuevo Half Marathon

More than 550 people participated Sunday in the sixth Rosarito-Puerto Nuevo Half Marathon along a coastal route through the popular tourist destination.

The event began at 7:30 a.m. at the Pabellon shopping center at the north entrance to the city and concluded at the world famous lobster village.

Registration Underway For November 7 Rosarito-Puerto Nuevo Half Marathon

Registration is underway for the fifth Rosarito-Puerto Nuevo Half Marathon on Nov. 7, an event that organizers hope will attract 600 participants in various categories.

Categories for the event along the Pacific Ocean are men, women 18 to 24; 25 to 29 30 to 34; 35 to 39; 40 to 44; 45 to 49; 50 to 54; 55 to 59 and over 60 years. There also is a wheelchair category.

Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place in each category, including wheelchairs. Cash prizes for the winners are first $400, second $300 and third $ 200.

For winners in the wheelchair categories first will be $150, second $100 and third $50. The winning Rosarito residents in men and women’s categories will each receive $200. They must prove at least three years of residence.

Commemorative medals will be awarded for the first 150 men and 50 women who finish and shirts given to each participant.

Entry fee is $100 pesos or $10 U.S. and registration is available at the Rosarito Convention & Visitors Bureau or the Institutes of Sport in Mexicali, Ensenada and Tijuana.

Management of the event is provided the State Association of Athletics of Baja California and the event is endorsed by the Mexican Federation of Athletics.

Rosarito-Puerto Nuevo Half Marathon Scheduled for November 7

July 2nd, 2009- The City of Rosarito Beach, Baja México and FDt Marketing are proud to announce the 4th Annual Rosarito-Puerto Nuevo Half Marathon which will be held on November 7th, 2009 in Rosarito. The event, which will begin at 7:30 am, will start at the Rosarito Beach North entrance, continue South on Highway 1 to the finish line at the entrance of Puerto Nuevo.

“We are very happy that FDt Marketing has signed on to assist in the development and coordination of the half marathon. We are very excited to have all the competitors here in our beautiful city and look forward to the event in November. Rosarito has always been recognized as a very attractive spot for active outdoor enthusiasts and this event will bring many positive things to our city. The half marathon has plenty of potential to be a successful event, and I am more than happy to make sure we host this event every year from now on”, said Hugo Torres, Mayor of Rosarito Beach.

FDt Marketing and Rosarito have set up hotel and travel packages as well as shuttle service to and from the U.S. border. Race packet pick up will be held Friday November 6 at the Rosarito Beach Hotel. The event will also include a festival at the finish line.

Anyone interested in signing up for the event can register on Active.com (keyword: Rosarito Beach). Registration is $30 until August 30 and $40 after August 30. The cost of the Kids Fun Run is $10. The deadline to register is October 19, 2009.

As for Rosarito security issues, Mayor Torres commented by saying “We welcome all tourists as usual, Rosarito is safer than ever as we have launched the Tourist Police Force, a group of attentive bilingual officers, trained especially to deal with tourists issues; we also have the Tourist Attention Department, available 24/7 and a fully bilingual Ombudsman for mayor incidents. We have no problems here and no tourist has been affected by organized crime in the last 20 years.”
